BMW . Lug Nut ProblemsEvery vehicle, from a passenger car to a large semi-truck, uses lug nuts. But, when the wheels have a problem, the lug nuts are among the first thing to be checked and adjusted. Identification Lug nuts are the large, threaded covers that hold each vehicle wheel to the axle. Depending on the vehicle's manufacturer, there can be four to six lug nuts for each wheel. Considerations A loose lug nut can result in a wobbling wheel. Tire tread and balance of the wheel is compromised if the lug nut is loose. Verify the proper torque of the lug nuts in the owner's manual or with a dealer. Significance Lug nuts can be over-torqued as well. If they are too tight, they can warp the brake rotor or break the studs, leading to a costly repair. Lubrication should not be applied to lug nuts or their studs to prevent improper torque.
BMW . How To Modify a 1982 Honda CivicThe 1982 Honda Civic is quickly on its way to becoming a classic car. Now over twenty five years old, the 1982 Civic can be registered in many states as a classic car. Modifying the 1982 Civic, however, isn't particularly easy. A lack of available bolt-on parts for the car means that potential modifications must be more creative than simply driving to your local parts shop and buying up kits to install in an afternoon. Difficulty:Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need Aftermarket aluminum wheels with sport tires Late model Honda Civic Seats Stick-on window tint Aftermarket stereo with replacement speakers Step by Step : 1 Replace the stock wheels and tires with aftermarket performance tires mounted on slightly oversize wheels. Early wheel covers for Honda Civics do little for the appearance of these cars, but aftermarket wheels quickly upgrade not only the handling of the car, but also the look, with many aluminum wheels lending the car the look of early 1980's rally race cars. Opt for wheels that won't rub on the fenders, but which are still slightly larger than stock for the best performance. 2 Remove the stock seats and replace them with late model Honda Civic Seats. Occasionally, good-condition seats can be found in salvage yards, and they bolt in place of the original stock seats without modification. Late model seats provide additional back support and comfort, as well as providing a nice contrast between the old car and the new. 3 Install aftermarket window tint. Window tint does more than just make the car look better, it also helps protect the interior from the effects of the sun. In older cars, it is common for the dashboard to crack and become discolored. If you have refurbished the interior of the car to go along with the upgraded seats, it's important to protect the work you've done. Avoid tinting with too-dark tints, however, as in many states, window tint is monitored by law enforcement. 4 Replace the stock stereo with an aftermarket head unit, then replace the stock speaker wiring with heavier gauge wiring. Aftermarket head units called "single din" units mount into the 1982 Honda Civic without alteration, though the stereo wiring harness may need replaced. If you've never changed an automotive stereo before, it may be a good idea to have a professional perform the work. Finally, replace the stock paper cone speakers with speakers matched to the output of the new stereo. This will ensure the best possible sound quality while driving. Tips & Warnings Avoid garish, over-the-top customizations to keep the car looking good. *e* An adjustable wrench: Use this tool to unscrew the oil drain plug. If you're not sure what an adjustable wrench is, see Chapter 2. v* An oil drain plug gasket: This piece of equipment is inexpensive, and it's wise to buy one in case the one on your car needs replacing. If you buy your oil filter from a dealer, a new gasket may be in the package. Some vehicles don't have drain plug gaskets, relying instead on a tapered metal-to-metal contact to prevent oil leakage. Don't try to use a gasket on one of these. It won't work, and you may end up with your new oil in a pool on the floor. f Something to catch the oil: Find an old basin that's low enough to fit under your car without your having to jack up the car, and large enough to hold all the old oil — usually about 5 quarts. Line the basin with a large plastic garbage bag, opened so that it can catch the oil, leaving the basin clean. You can also buy a container made especially for holding old oil. These containers are reusable, but you have to wash them out and find a place 750

Rags: You should also have a clean, lint-free rag for wiping your oil dipstick and a dirty, old, thick rag that you don't mind throwing away. You can use paper towels to clean up spills and tools, but you don't want to risk bits of paper getting into your engine. A work light: A work light helps you see better underneath the vehicle, and a flashlight can be awkward if you have to hold it between your teeth! BMW . Why is your car running hard?
Nissan 240SX. * Do the job systematically Always use a system when you do an oil change: Do each part of the job in order, and don't change that order from job to job. This may sound unduly restrictive if you like to improvise, but if you ignore this advice, you may find that you've added the new oil before replacing the oil drain plug or changing the filter. In either case, you wind up with your brand-new oil all over the ground and not enough oil in the engine to drive to the store for more. Also, the minute you replace the oil drain plug, always tighten it completely and put in the new oil. That way, you won't forget to put in the new oil. (Don't laugh; people have done that and have ruined their engines in a couple of miles.) BMW . Where can you find vehicle pictures made for projects?

If you do have to jack up your car, read Chapter 1 to be sure that Chapter 15: Changing Your Oil you do so safely. Block the wheels, use jack stands, and don't jack the car up too high, or the oil may not drain out of the oil pan completely. If you can, jack up the car so that the oil drain plug is at the lower end of the oil pan. In any case, be sure your gearshift is in Park or Neutral with the emergency brake on before you work on it. Place all the stuff you're going to use within easy reach so that you don't have to jump up and run around to the other side of the vehicle in the middle of the job. Now follow these easy steps to change your oil and oil filter: 1. Warm up your engine for two or three minutes so that the gook gets churned up and can flow out of the engine easily. BMW .
